Many Monthly Print Mags See Ads Up in 2010

According to Media Industry Newsletter, the number of ad pages that appeared in the 149 monthly print magazines it regularly follows in its “Boxscores” feature increased by 4.22% throughout 2010. This is a major turnaround from the 20.02% drop MIN tracked in 2009. (minOnline)

Of the 149 monthlies, 99 saw an increase with Vogue coming out on top with an increase of 318 pages or 16%. Rounding out the top three were People Stylewatch with an increase of 311 ad pages and Elle Decore with an increase of 288. (minOnline)

Of the top ten, eight were aimed at women. The two outliers were Chicago, a local magazine focusing solely on Chicago culture and stories, and Parenting Early Years, one half of the recent split content drive of Parenting magazine.

These figures solidify a trend many media analysts were tracking throughout the year: print magazines are seeing a slight resurgence. It seems likely that these numbers will increase next year as the economy continues to stabilize.
